The rake edge should be installed at the rakes above the underlay of the roof. Use larger rake boards such as 1 by 4 inch and 1 by 6 inch when there isn t an eave overhang on the gable end. Generally speaking there are three main types of roof rakes. The rake of a roof is the outer edge that runs from the eave to the ridge or peak of the roof.

Though there are many shapes of drip edge available it is important to use a product which does not hinder water from running off the roof. It is typically perpendicular to the eave. In today s video we go over the basic techniques to installing drip edge and rake edge on your roof. They are referred to as overhanging exposed overhanging and boxed in and abbreviated or sometimes called extended.

Roof rake boards are installed in different widths based on the surface being covered. At the eaves the drip edge should be installed before the eave protection membrane.
