Both step shingling and racking will yield a watertight roof.
Continue adding panels until the roof is covered.
When installing shingles start by laying a narrow row of shingles at the bottom of the roof along the edge.
Screw the new panel in place as described.
This saves a lot of time moving shingle bundles and a lot of back strain.
Nail the shingles with no tabs such as precut pro start shingles and apply asphalt cement from a caulk gun in many dots along the drip edge under the edge then press the tab less shingles down onto the line of asphalt cement dots with adequate spaces between the dots.
Do this on both sides of the roof.
Roof planes that butt against vertical walls at the end of the shingle course are protected by metal step flashing at least 125 mm high and 125 mm wide 5 high and 5 wide.

Continue laying your shingles horizontally up the roof.
A continuous bead of asphalt could trap condensation or windblown water under the roofing at some point.
Do the same with the next shingle continuing this step until you get to the far edge of the ridge.
Apply a shingle then a piece of flashing then a shingle and so on so that each piece of flashing rests on top of the lower course and is covered by the upper course.
Cut the last ridge shingle to the length you need but be sure that no part of the roof is exposed.
Apply a flashing piece then a shingle then flashing as you would apply step flashing for a chimney.
When applying the new shingles each shingle course will be covered by a step flashing.
To lay out the design for the shingles begin at the bottom of the roof and place a tape measure inch from the edge of the roof to ensure the shingles overhang the drip edge.
Not only that the shingles can be piled just to the side of the column being laid.
