Step 1 find the leak. Replace or repair the metal flashing around the frame of the skylight. Apply 100 silicone caulking tube to seal leaks around the skylight lens. Use roofing cement can or tube to seal any gaps or holes in the flashing.

After inspecting the inside of the skylight use a ladder to climb onto the roof to check the outside. On this project adam was called out to inspect leaks around a skylight. If it s carefully removed when the old roof is torn off it should be reusable. Move any leaves and debris from around the window and once it is clear check for any cracks in the cover and look at the weather stripping it should be firm and free of signs of cracking.

Sealing skylight windows prevents water leaks. Most residential skylights sit on a raised curb made watertight with metal flashing. If not you ll have to buy new flashing 50 to 100 either from the skylight manufacturer or from a roofing company that has a metal fabrication shop look under roofing. You ll need the proper knowledge and materials as well as enough courage to work on your roof.
